The Great War is over, but Myra Bennett will not slow down. She has left England on a temporary assignment as the lone nurse to nearly 500km of rural coastline in Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula.  Determined to leave her mark, Myra must brave the culture shock and decide whether she will allow the feisty locals to leave their mark on her as well. Soon, matters of the heart mix with matters of business, and her temporary contract threatens to become anything but! Could Newfoundland be where Myra belongs? And how will she know? Based on a true story, this Canadian gem has wowed audiences around the world with its poetry, emotion and celebration of community and resilience.

This play follows a nurse through medical emergencies that include a severed foot and light description of loss of a baby during childbirth. Childbirth, pulling teeth, fixing broken limbs and other minor medical procedures are featured often in the story.

    • The performance space is in the loft of Swallowfield Barn and is only accessible via stairway. We are installing a battery-powered stairlift to help those who have accessibility needs. We are limiting the availability of “mobility accommodation” tickets for each performance in order to ensure the lift will have more than enough charge to handle all of the up and down trips a patron might need. If you use a wheelchair and/or you have difficulty with stairs, please select a'Mobility Accommodation' ticket. Please feel free to contact us before you purchase a ticket if you have questions regarding your specific needs in relation to the Mobility Accommodation tickets.

    • Our Front of House Manager will guide patrons who purchase “mobility accommodation” tickets, but won’t be able to assist with the transfer to/from the stairlift, so if you require assistance, we are happy to provide a complimentary ticket to a support person for you. Please email boxoffice@littledippertheatre.com with your name and the performance for which you purchased a mobility accommodation ticket if you need us to reserve a complimentary ticket and seat for someone.

    • Accessible parking is available directly in front of the entrance to the barn. A parking attendant will direct you to it. A spot will be reserved for anyone who has bought a mobility accommodation ticket. Limited additional accessible parking will be available for anyone who has trouble walking long distances.

    • We will be using portable toilets for patrons. There will be a wheelchair accessible portable toilet available as well.

If you have questions about any of the above, please contact: boxoffice@littledippertheatre.com

  • Swallowfield Barn is cozy but uninsulated. Dress for the temperature! Hot drinks will be sold at concession, and standing heaters will be employed before the show and during intermission. Feel free to bring cozy lap blankets from home!

  • Those who do not need accessible parking will be directed to park on the road. Keep an eye open for parking attendants and wear appropriate footwear for walking across a lawn.

About the Venue

Swallowfield Farm
7296 Telegraph Trail, Langley, BC

Swallowfield Barn is a community gathering space residing on a private working farm about a ten minute drive outside of Fort Langley. It was commissioned by Jenny and Dennis DeGroot to provide a space for togetherness and creativity: parties, poetry readings, live music and the occasional theatre event. The design is inspired by traditional barn raisings, but with a modern twist. There is also a beautiful concession area. We are so honoured to be one of the few events selected at Swallowfield this year, and endeavor to live up to its’ purpose for community building and celebration. Much thanks to the DeGroots!
